August 25th - Ricardo Almeida having fun on his UFC journey
After sitting out nearly half a year due to injury, Renzo Gracie BJJ product Ricardo “Big Dog” Almeida returned at UFC 111 last weekend showing little to no ill effects in a dominating performance over Matt Brown.
Almeida was asked: Prior to your fight with Brown, he mentioned how he’d like to test your mentor, Renzo Gracie, in his return. Was that a motivating factor for you and where does that rivalry sit today?
Almeida replied: I don't really take things personal, but if I said it wasn't a motivating factor in my training I would be lying. I really don't think Brown meant to disrespect Renzo in any way, but as one of Renzo's most senior students I took it upon myself to make sure I was 100-percent ready to represent Renzo against someone who challenged him. It is still nothing personal, just competition for me. I talked to Brown after the fight and made sure he knows there are no hard feelings from my part.
Almeida was asked: With the win, do you feel you are in contention for the welterweight title, or do you feel more is needed to secure your shot?
He replied: I’m not really thinking about the belt now. Fighting for the title is consequence of impressive performances. I just want to get back to training and keep getting better. If the wins come sooner or later it will happen. I am having a great time in training, and fighting has never been more fun for me. I am in a good position to charge toward the top of the division, and I don't want to spoil the fun by putting too much pressure on myself.
Ricardo Almeida: I wanted to thank my team for all the support. A lot of important people in my life helped me prepare for this and I owe it all to them. There are too many to mention individual names. Also, I would like to thank my sponsors: Tokyo 5, Jaco, Dead Game, and Hayabusa. Finally, thank you to the fans, especially the Jersey fans who packed Prudential Center on Saturday and made it a memorable night.

August 25th - Doc Wood's Mixed Martial Arts Clinics
In conjunction with BMF Sports, Doc Woods and Magnificent Kuntaw Silat MMA is proud to present “Doc Woods’s Mixed Martial Arts Clinics.” Woods began the clinics in the summer of 2009, and to this day has worked with children in numerous cities in Virginia, North Carolina, and the Philippines. Unlike most martial arts programs, Woods does not believe in charging his students. Doc believes that a child’s desire to learn and dedication is enough. Often the children that could benefit most from a well structured martial arts system are the ones that can not afford the costly monthly fees associated with many martial arts schools.
Each clinic begins with a motivational speech by Doc Woods, focusing specifically on a topic such as: respect, overcoming adversity, self esteem building, positive self image development, learning self discipline, and developing a positive and constructive way to express yourself.
Doc then leads the group through step by step instructions of basic mixed martial arts techniques. Woods closes the session with exciting and invigorating mixed martial arts stations and drills, followed by a recap of the session, and reiterating the importance of positive life style choices. Each clinic can accommodate up to 30 youth (depending on the location). For additional information, questions, or booking feel free to contact Doc at lw7@hotmail.com. For more information, pics, videos, and sponsor listing please visit www.TrainWithDoc.com/docsmmaclinics.htm We are proud to be able to help these kids out and get them the shorts they needed.

April 10th 2010 - Dead Game's Frankie Edgar defeats BJ Penn and is now the new Lightweight Champion of The World!
Starting in the sport as a wrestler, Edgar’s excellent stand-up made all the difference at Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi. Edgar going for a takedown in the first round instead saw Penn landing some solid punches in response. Not only did Edgar's deliver a resounding defeat to Penn but he also managed to place a real mean one just under the eye. Penn was simply stunned and did not seem to come up with the fight to win on the day. Aside from the climate Penn also seemed to have a hard time adjusting to his challenger Frankie Edgar's speed and caught several well-aimed punches as evident in his bruised face. |
Edgar did not slow down throughout any of the five rounds although this was his first title challenge. Penn, on the other hand, was clearly worn down by Edgar's speedy hammer fists and could hardly keep up in the final round. When the bout went to the judges' scorecards they awarded Edgar the win via unanimous decision, making him the new UFC Lightweight Champion in the process.
Dead Game is proud to give congratulations to New Jersey's own and Dead Game's own Frankie Edgar for taking the UFC Lightweight title. Not only did he win this title. He earned himself , Dead Game and , all fighters from New Jersey even more respect. So once again Congratulation to Dead Game's Frankie Edgar on his shocking win vs BJ Penn! |

Edgar has amassed an overall MMA record of 11-1, including a 6-1 mark in the UFC. Before his UFC debut in February of 2007, Frankie amassed an undefeated record in the Ring of Combat, Sportfighting, and Reality Fighting promotions, a stretch that included a win over UFC and DeadGame™ fighter Jim Miller. In his UFC debut, "The Answer" was able to score a Unanimous Decision victory over highly touted prospect Tyson Griffin. This was followed by a TKO over veteran Mark Bocek, and decision over veteran striker Spencer "The King" Fisher. Renzo Gracie (New York City) of the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu family will make his long-awaited UFC debut against former two-time UFC Welterweight Champion and future Hall of Famer Matt Hughes. Gracie stands with a current MMA record of 13-6-1 1NC. In December of 2009, Renzo signed a six-fight UFC contract and in his first bout next Saturday, he will look to put the Welterweight Division and MMA world on notice when he takes on a fellow legend in Hughes. Gracie will be coming off of a three-year hiatus from the sport that owes much credit for it's success to the Gracie family. In his last three outings, Renzo Gracie has scored wins over three MMA pioneers: former UFC 205 pound kingpin Frank "The Legend" Shamrock, as well as the leader of the famous Miletich fighting system and former UFC Welterweight Champion Pat Miletich, and well-respected Canadian veteran Carlos Newton, who also has held the UFC Welterweight crown. In the UFC's inaugural trek to Abu Dhabi, Renzo Gracie will look to avenge his cousin Royce Gracie's loss to Matt Hughes when the two tangle for three rounds in a Welterweight showdown not to be missed. DeadGame™ is proud to sponsor Renzo as he takes the first step in revitalizing his already legendary career at UFC 112: Invincible. |

Miller showed his immense heart and determination in true DeadGame™ form in the opening bout of the PPV broadcast to take the 29-28 decision victory on all three judges' scorecards. The win puts Miller one step closer to the top of the Lightweight Division and represents the fourth consecutive win for Jim. The gritty Lightweight's record now stands at 6-1 in the UFC, and 17-2 overall with his two defeats coming at the hands of the top two ranked Lightweight Contenders in the UFC today, Frankie Edger and Gray Maynard.

In the opening bout of the Spike TV Preliminary Broadcast, Ricardo Almeida needed just half of the allotted three rounds to dispose of a very game and crafty Matt Brown. “Big Dog” dominated from bell to bell, keeping Brown’s back on the fence while easily taking round one, before ultimately submitting him with a Rear Naked Choke at 3:30 of Round 2. This puts Almeida at 5-3 in the UFC, and 4-1 since his return to MMA after a four-year hiatus from 2004-2008. Ricardo, who has undefeated records in PRIDE and Pancrase promotions, won his third straight in his Welterweight Debut this past Saturday, and put the entire division on notice in the process.
